Week 8
Good Morning everyone,
I hope everyone had a lovely weekend, the weather was gorgeous!
This week I have to say I have been so impressed with how well the classes reading comprehension skills have improved! When I took over the class, I thought that a lot of the students seemed to struggle to find the answers to comprehension questions in the text we were reading. I wanted to focus on this for a while because this is a skill that the students will need throughout their time learning English and throughout their lives. When I have taught in high schools I am always concerned by how many students struggle to just read and understand the books we work on in class. 302 have improved so much with their reading comprehension in the last few weeks! I feel so proud of them.
The test score average this week was 87. This shows we have dipped a little bit in performance. I think this is because a lot of the students struggled with part E, Commas in Dates and Letters. If I am honest we didn't really have enough time last week to introduce the story, teach all the new vocabulary, write our written projects, teach about suffixes, teach about dictation AND go on a school trip. We only got 15 minutes to learn about the commas in dates and letters. We will review this over the week and I will make sure they understand them better by Friday!
Cheers,
James Cleeve
